Family & Community Engagement at Unit 4 has partnered with Urbana School District 116 and the Douglass Branch of the Champaign Library to bring cross-town parent education workshops to the the families of Unit 4 and District 116.  "We wanted to find a way to empower local parents across Champaign-Urbana with vital information about salient topics in the lives of many families in our community," explains Dr. Amanda Gray, Title 1 Parent Liaison for Unit 4.  Gray and Jeniece Mitchell, her counterpart at Urbana, had been meeting to share resources, and soon identified 3 major issues for which parents and families seek support: how to keep their kids engaged in school, finding quality housing and keeping it, and how to go about getting a job.  The Douglass Branch of the Champaign Public Library has co-hosted the first 2 of 3 workshops, and on April 20, they will co-host "Session 3: Getting a job!" where Gray, Mitchell, Cat Purcell, the Career Librarian, and Amanda Raklovits, the Children's Librarian will provide a resume writing station, an interview prep station (complete with free wardrobe boutique), and a job-board station.  Childcare is provided with the help of our District's partnership with America Reads America Counts, and dinner is provided through our collaboration.  For more information contact grayam@u4sd.org.
